Southern Middlesex County faces ongoing flooding challenges that are expected to intensify due to rising sea levels, storm surge, and increasingly extreme rainfall associated with climate change. These conditions pose growing risks to communities, infrastructure, and the region’s long-term flood resilience.

The Southern Middlesex Flood Mitigation and Resilience Study is a regional, FEMA-funded initiative that will assess flood risk across Southern Middlesex County and prepare a Regional Flood Resilience and Adaptation Plan. The plan will identify gaps in existing resiliency efforts and develop innovative, regional strategies for flood resilience and climate adaptation that are equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the entire community.
